Консоли PAL-A, т.е. MATTEL VERSION(но не для Канады) и NES VERSION совместимы.
Консоли PAL-A и PAL-B не совместимы, вообще.

Картриджи с пометкой:
{A} This game is only compatible with the Mattel or NES versions of the Nintendo Entertainment System"- предназначена NES VERSION (PAL-A) и MATTEL VERSION (PAL-A) 
{B} "This game is not compatible with the Mattel or NES versions of the Nintendo Entertainment System" -  предназначена для EUROPIAN VERSION (PAL-B)

Since two types of lockout chip were used in Europe, European NES game boxes often had an "A" or "B" letter on the front, indicating whether the game is compatible with UK/Italian/Australian consoles (A), or the rest of Europe ( B ). 

Rest-of-Europe games typically had text on the box stating "This game is not compatible with the Mattel or NES versions of the Nintendo Entertainment System". Similarly, UK/Italy/Australia games stated "This game is only compatible with the Mattel or NES versions of the Nintendo Entertainment System".

   • USA/Canada (3193 lockout chip), 
   • most of Europe (3195), 
   • Asia (3196)
   • UK, Italy and Australia (3197)

   • NTSC : NES-**-USA;
Европейские картриджи PAL : 
   • NES-**-UKV (PAL-A); 
   • NES-**-NOE ; 
   • NES-**-EEC (PAL-B); 

Консоли:

при несоответствии региона происходят постоянные перезагрузки консоли.

- NES VERSION (PAL-A) продавалась в основном в Великобритании, Австралии
- MATTEL VERSION (PAL-A) в основном была распространена в Италии
- EUROPIAN VERSION (PAL-B) самая распространённая в Европе версия
Консоли PAL-A, т.е. MATTEL VERSION(но не для Канады) и NES VERSION совместимы.
Консоли PAL-A и PAL-B не совместимы, вообще.
Консоли с пометкой A предназначена NES VERSION (PAL-A) и - MATTEL VERSION (PAL-A)
Консоли с пометка B для EUROPIAN VERSION (PAL-B)
